The Festival

Over the years Dedica has distinguished itself as an “atypical” festival, one featuring many voices on an organic, articulate journey of in-depth study and insight.

The sixteenth edition revolves around Hans Magnus Enzensberger, a German writer and poet and, more importantly, one of the most eclectic and intellectual minds on the European landscape. Over the course of the two weeks, numerous appointments ranging from meetings, books, theatre, exhibitions, poetry and cinema will provide an opportunity to get to know the author, but especially to find opportunities to exchange ideas on and discuss major issues.

“The art of paradox and irony” is Enzensberger’s hallmark and it is the style with which he addresses issues such as migration, culture, the failure of history to teach, war and the power of the media. Paradox meant as a skill that leads to questioning our knowledge and redefining its boundaries; and irony, from where freedom starts: both essential to Enzensberger as a means of interpreting the distortions and weaknesses of contemporary society in a perspective that combines the philosophical, literary approach with a clinical outlook.

Promoted and organised by the Thesis Associazione Culturale, the project is supported by public bodies, in particular by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region, the Municipality of Pordenone, the Province of Pordenone, the Ente Regionale Teatrale del Friuli Venezia Giulia and a number of important local private entities: Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Udine e Pordenone, Electrolux, Venetobanca Holding, Malìparmi and Coop Consumatori Nord Est.

“Dedica a Hans Magnus Enzensberger” has received the Silver Medal of the President of the Republic.
