As if blown in on the wind, fairy tales know no boundaries: they change language and names and migrate from one side of the sea to the other, bringing with them their aura of mystery, astonishment and imagination. So in these fairy tales, which come from Algeria we find echoes of stories from our homeland, along with many other ingredients with new flavours. Adults and children alike will be able to hear them read out by Chiara Carminati and admire the illustrations produced live using sand, water and imagination by Massimo Ottoni to the sound of original music by Christian Ravaglioli.

Chiara Carminati
writes books for children and teenagers, and holds meetings in libraries, schools and bookshops to promote reading. She is specialised in teaching poetry and holds refresher courses for teachers and librarians, in Italy and abroad. She works together with illustrators and musicians in performances and workshops based on the books she writes. Her latest books to be published include: Parto (with Massimiliano Tappari, Panini), Belle Bestie (with Altan and Giovanna Pezzetta, Panini) and Buonanotte Prato Sonno (Einaudi Ragazzi). In 2012 she won the Andersen Prize for Best Author. For the novel Fuori fuoco she won the Orbil Prize, the Alvaro-Bigiaretti prize, the Laura Orvieto prize and selection for White Ravens 2016.

Massimo Ottoni
Born in Fano in 1975, Massimo Ottoni attended the “Scuola del Libro” secondary school in Urbino, animated films course. He has made four animation films, which have won awards and acknowledgements in several festivals. In 1999 he was the first Italian to introduce the public to the technique, now widely known, of sand-art. He currently performs live as a light-artist. During his career he has worked alongside numerous musicians and actors (John De Leo, Danilo Rea, Achille Succi, Alessandro Bergonzoni, Stefano Benni, Ettore Fioravanti, Roy Paci and David Riondino) using various media of expression such as sand, paper, tempera paints and food.

Christian Ravaglioli
After studying classical music, Christian Ravaglioli gained diplomas in piano and oboe which led him to work intensively with internationally renowned theatres: the Scala theatre, the Symphonic Orchestra of Sanremo and the Symphonic Orchestra of Milan. As a composer he debuted with the show H2O, produced by the Giuditta Pasta theatre. He then went on to collaborate with, amongst others, the Orchestra Toscanini in Parma and writers Alessandro Bergonzoni and Stefano Benni.
Some of the people he has worked and recorded with over the last few years are: David Riondino, Trilok Gurtu, Michael Marcus, Vinicio Capossela, Gianluca Petrella, Jovanotti, Marc Ribot, David Hidalgo, Jim Keltner and Fabrizio Bosso.
