The fascinating sounds produced by the strings of the “oud”, the Arabian lute, which Dhafer Youssef and his extraordinary musicians use to play a series of compositions in the Arab tradition, but at the same time including a variety of influences from the West and the Far East. Very different and distant worlds which, combining contrasting musical sounds that blend together to invent a music which is totally innovative.
Dhafer Youssef
Composer, singer and musician Dhafer Youssef was born in 1967 in Téboulba, Tunisia. His musical roots are based on the “sufi” tradition and mystical music, although he is open to the music of other cultures and to jazz, through which he has become one of the most innovative talents on the international music scene. He has won numerous awards and worked with other international musicians to produce a wide range of records, including Malak (1999), Electric Sufi (2002), Digital Prophecy (2003), Divine Shadows (2006), Abu Nawas Rhapsody (2010), Birds Requiem (2013), Diwan of Beauty and Odd (2016) and Sounds of Mirrors (2018).
