LIBYA INFELIX

Inauguration of an exhibition of photographs by Elio Ciol
presented by Angelo Bertani
with the participation of Elio Ciol and Hisham Matar

The photographs taken by Elio Ciol in 2002 showing the ancient ruins in Leptis Magna, Sabratha, Cirene and other sites in Libya tell us how different cultures have overlapped and amalgamated, bringing the hope that there might come about a prosperous coexistence and, who knows, realising dreams of glory. However, history itself, through these ruins and images continues to make us think deeply not only about the past but, even more important, the present.

The exhibition will be open from 8th March to 4th April:
from Tuesday to Saturday, 9.00 am-7.00 pm
Sunday 10.30-12.30 am / 4.00-7.00 pm
Free admission

The exhibition catalogue, edited for Thesis by Angelo Bertani and Claudio Cattaruzza, will be on sale during the festival at a cost of €10.00, or can be ordered on the festival’s website shop.

Elio Ciol
Elio Ciol was born in 1929 in Casarsa della Delizia, where he continues to live and work. His career began in his father’s photographic workshop, where he gained extensive technical experience. Between the 1950s and the present day, he has developed a very personal approach to landscape photography, producing numerous books of photography and exhibition catalogues. At the same time, his studio’s professional activities focus mainly on projects documenting works of art in Italy and Europe, which led him to collaborate with numerous publications specializing in the history of art. His photographs are displayed in many international collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musée de la Photographie in Charleroi and the Museo Puškin delle Belle Arti in Moscow.
