The Festival

The unique Dedica festival has characterized the lively panorama of Italian literary events for twenty-seven years.

Its original formula, which concentrates stage performances, conversations, cinema, music, art and books into an intense week-long programme, allows spectators to become truly immersed in the world of the featured author, around whom each edition builds its own specific itinerary.

Dedica offers the public the opportunity to examine the thinking and cultural context of the individual dedicatee, and expand upon his or her work through the use of various artistic forms and different means of expression.

The 2021 edition of the festival is dedicated to Paolo Rumiz, a journalist, writer and traveller from Trieste with unique talents as a storyteller and an intense, compelling style of writing.

In his accounts, the travel experience is not translated into descriptive reports but becomes a living testimony of humanity and an opportunity for reflection on people and places. His books, full of events, encounters and curiosities, leads readers along the intricate paths of history, geography and remembrance to discover how cultural diversity is a distinctive but not necessarily divisive element and how the encounter/comparison with others can contribute to self-awareness.

Devised and organized by Thesis Associazione Culturale, the Dedica project is sponsored by a number of public bodies and institutions – in particular the Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region, PromoTurismoFVG (Regional Tourist Board), the Municipality of Pordenone, the Fondazione Friuli foundation, Crédit Agricole-Friuladria and Coop Alleanza 3.0 – and is staged with the support of its special partner, Servizi CGN and several major private organizations.

The Festival is currently curated by Claudio Cattaruzza.
