comment and considerations by Riccardo Costantini, Fabrizio Polpettini and Kader Abdolah

«I’m an exile and an exile always needs light at the end of the tunnel», says Kader Abdolah, an Iranian political refugee who arrived in the Netherlands in 1988 without knowing a word of Dutch and twenty-five years later he was able to write a novel, The house of the mosque, which was voted the second best book ever written in Dutch.
As the son of a poor deaf and dumb carpet mender, Kader was the ears and mouth of his father as a child. The exile who would then succeed in finding a place in the world of letters of his new country was thus already born under the sign of the lost word. A word that was then diligently rediscovered; a word that enables us to be in the world.
