A theatrical adaptation of Sorj Chalandon’s novel of the same name
by and with Marco Baliani
«As is the case with true dedications, I will approach Sorj Chalandon’s novel The Day Before with the excitement that this text caused in me. Through a series of readings chosen to enter the world of the novel I will try to give a voice to the author’s particular writing, his dry and decisive way of narrating, which leaves no hiding place for readers but precipitates them into a maelstrom of feelings and information and then overturns the convictions matured at the start. Reading aloud makes the characters stand out even more clearly as concrete, bodily figures of a story that is at the same time familiar, dynastic and concretely bound up with the reality of places, above all the mining location that is at the centre of the work like an absurd monument to humanity that has run to rack and ruin».
