Photographic exhibition by Manoocher Deghati
presentation by Angelo Bertani and Claudio Cattaruzza
with the participation of Manoocher Deghati and Kader Abdolah
«As a photojournalist, I have always carried my camera as both a shield and a bridge to moments of intense human history. My photographs from Iran – during the Iranian Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War – are more than pictures: they are a part of my life, a reflection of resilience, conflict, and the indomitable human spirit.
These photos have not been just work, but my way of witnessing and sharing the raw truths of a nation in upheaval».
Manoocher Deghati
The exhibition catalogue, published by Thesis and edited by Angelo Bertani and Claudio Cattaruzza, is available during the event or on this website shop.
Manoocher Deghati
was born in Urmia in Iran. He started out as a professional photojournalist in 1978 at the time of the Iranian Revolution and the subsequent war between his Country and Iraq.
Since being exiled from Iran in 1985, he has worked with different international press agencies and leading weeklies. His photographs bear unflinching testimony to war’s horror and absurdity but also to the less obvious aspects of people and social situations.
He created and headed the Photo Unit of the United Nations Humanitarian Press Agency and the AINA Photojournalism Institute in Afghanistan, and was the photographic director of France-Press and Associated Press.
The quality of his work has won him numerous prizes, including the World Press Photo (first prize in 1984 and third prize 1986) and the Fuji Prize.
