The Author

Arturo Pérez-Reverte was born in Cartagena in Spain in 1951.

He worked as war correspondent for the press, radio and television until 1994, when he decided to devote himself to literature. He is a highly successful author and his novels have been translated into over 40 languages, and several have been made into films.

In 1992 he received the Goya Prize, which was followed, among others, by the Jean Monnet Prize for European Literature (1997), the Prix Méditerranée Étranger awarded by the Académie Goncourt (2001), and the von Rezzori Prize (2008). In 1998 he was nominated a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France and since 2003 has been a member of the Real Academia Española, Spain´s highest institution for language and literature.
